LEGO will die if it doesn't embrace 3D printing.

As a 3D Printing Business owner, I've had requests from a lot of people trying to print LEGO pieces, because the kits are so expensive, and with 3D printing you can print exactly what you need, even if that brick doesn't exist!

LEGO should be rushing to integrate the LEGO Builder app with a 3D printing software, imagine that your child can build a LEGO creation on their phone or tablet, then export all of the bricks into a 3D print slicer like Bambustudio and your printer just prints the bricks you need straight away!

With entry level printers becoming so reliable, high quality and cheap, I could buy a Bambulabs Mini and print all of the pieces, for less than buying one medium sized LEGO set.

No more tooling, no more international distribution, no more paying for shelf space, LEGO could make a lot of money by embracing the future of manufacturing. And if they don't do it, someone else will.

3D printing is an egalitarian manufacturing revolution, product-focused startups can get going cheaper than ever, innovation and prototypes are quicker, and big companies that rely on their tooling, brand deals and big marketing budgets, could eventually be replaced by more convenient and engaging offerings that use desktop 3D printing.

For example, if I want a LEGO kit to build a Mclaren Sportscar, I might want it to be a strange colour, no problem, I’ll just use a different filament! I might want it to be scaled up to 2X size, to fit a small action figure inside, but the LEGO scale doesn’t work for me. You get the idea.

Finally, an integration/ application for desktop 3D printing like this would catapult a 3D printer manufacturer into a new league, it’s no longer a tool, it’s a household appliance that average families will see the value of owning.

That's all from me.
